San Francisco’s newest night of underground beats’n'bass:
SWAY
featuring:
http://starkey-music.com/
http://soundcloud.com/
Starkey has a gift for matching melodic complexity with forceful rhythms. His compositions are filtered through the heavy buzzes and oscillating warbles of the post-Joker sound. So you get these soaring, emotive melodies, with 2-step beats loosely translated into contemporary R&B or American club rap that unfold into ultra-dense counterpoints between sweetly toned harmonies and clobbering low-end. And the tracks get more compelling the further those roles are blurred: The fundamentals of great bass music rely on every component reacting to and building on the rhythm.
Yet for all its epic sweep, there’s a certain lightheartedness and a sly sense of humor here– a self-aware sense of playing with stylistic expectations.
KASTLE

http://soundcloud.com/
Kastle has cultivated his own style of bass-heavy beats with a soulful twist.
After teaching himself guitar and piano at the age of 12, Barrett Richards pooled his efforts towards electronic instrumentation about two years later. He began taking production as seriously as he did DJing during that time, and involved himself deep into the Northeast rave scene. It was no surprise that in time, though, personal growth and 14 years of production experience paired with a degree in audio engineering would breed a new sound. Kastle came to life at a pivotal moment after a big move from Boston back to his hometown of Pittsburgh in March 2009. After nearly a year of conceptualizing, he knew he was working on something special.
The name itself implies a fortress, a personal space that is used to cultivate a long-time love of hip-hop and R&B and fuse it with the magnetizing effect that dubstep, garage and bass-heavy music has had on Barrett.
The studio and touring dichotomy of an artist’s life is a perfect yin & yang for Kastle in both his production and outlook. His professional experience as an engineer puts forth clean, crisp production, but his love for the party provides a playful bass that eats a room. Altogether, the wide varieties of vocals – both originals and sampled – are a key element to Kastle’s sound. “I grew up on hip hop and R&B, and sampling is considered an art form,” he says. “It’s becoming more and more fun to dig through old records and find obscure samples.” He cites another unexpected influence -legendary French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who had once said that “it’s not where you take things from, it’s where you take them to.”
Tony Goods (aka Dash EXP)

Tony Goods ‘The Bronx Born Bastard Lovechild’ (of Dash EXP) recently learned from his mother that his estranged father had also been an active DJ through the 80′s and 90′s in New York City, giving him the goods for a life of musical escapades. Under this alias he finds a world where UK Bass, Southern Rap, and minimal techno share the dance together.
Tony’s’ chart-topping debut “Friends” EP on UK’s Sounds of Sumo label, was reviewed as an amalgamation of ‘tropical, future garage and post-dubstep,’ with ‘glorious contrasts’ of ‘emotion-rich’ melodic music for the dance floor. His Second Solo effort, ‘Make it Back / Get Caught’, on Stateside’s Car Crash Set, depicts a moody pronunciation of low end with drifting synths.
Tony’s tracks, both as Goods and Dash EXP, have received air play on BBC’s Radio 1Xtra & Rinse.fm, plus support from Addison Groove, Doorly, 6blocc, Kastle, Starkey and Borgore – some key players in the world of cutting edge bass music.

Paper Diamond w/Minnesota
Forward is not just a direction, it’s a way of life for Colorado based producer Alex B who is rolling out big tunes under the new guise of Paper Diamond. The new project finds the trusted producer moving into previously untraveled musical territory.
The Paper Diamond sound has raw energy and the kind of dramatic anticipation only a seasoned producer can incite. Driving beats and bass grab on tight while deep, rich tones rumble under layers of spacey synthesizers, sweet melodies, and catchy vocals. One thing is for sure. The energy is high.
In keeping with the way of the future, Paper Diamond’s debut EP “Levitate” is available for free download from PRETTY LIGHTS MUSIC and ELM&OAK RECORDS.

Minnesota:

Christian Bauhofer at first glance comes off as the unassuming dude yawning next to you in class, a kind of lumberjack-nerd fusion in his glasses and scruffy facial hair. However, wait until the sun goes down and add a couple drinks and a whole lot of bass — and quiet, smiley Christian assumes his party-crushing alter-ego: Minnesota.
“My goal is to make bass-heavy dubstep/glitch-hop music that’ll get you dancing, but is not the same old, three-note transformer-step … I try to focus more on the melodic side of dubstep, and hopefully, make quality songwriting a more relevant factor in the genre.” Bauhofer says.
In the past two years his producing has taken off, with both originals and remixes gaining great popularity on sites like Soundcloud.com. In Minnesota productions, big influences show through from songwriters Bauhofer looks up to — artists such as Mimosa, Martyparty, and Modeselektor. His first EP “Panda Snatching Tycoon” was released to great acclaim in January 2011 on Tycho Records, featuring three original tracks: “Push It,” “Purple Daze,” and “Twisted.”
Minnesota tracks are heard in dubstep/glitch sets all over the world, including those from Bassnectar, PANTyRaid, Mimosa, MartyParty, LowRiderz, and Tokimonsta,to name a few. His latest and greatest remix of “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas & the Papas has been getting tons of play — most notably by dubstep trailblazer Bassnectar a.k.a. Lorin Ashton, on his current U.S. tour.
“Quickly becoming a staple in my sets,” Ashton said about Minneosta track “Push It,” “Perfect for when I need a track that is epic and churning but also melodically hype.”
